A Bachelorette First! Everything We Know About Clare & Tayshia’s ‘Bachelorette’ Season

Since quarantine started, fans have been desperate for information about Clare Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette. However, as the weeks continue, there seems to be little info around the Bachelorette 2020 release date, cast and spoilers. And while nothing official has been said about season 16 of The Bachelorette, there have been rumors on how ABC will film the next season while the world is on lockdown. Let’s run through everything we’ve heard, shall we?

This post was originally published in April 2020 and will continue to be updated.

Who’s The Bachelorette 2020?

Let’s start with the basics: Who’s the Bachelorette 2020? Well, that answer is a bit complicated. In February, Clare Crawley, was announced as the new Bachelorette. She’s 39 years old and is a hairstylist from Sacramento, California. She’s also the oldest ever Bachelorette, but as she reminds fans, with age comes wisdom. “A lot of people put [my age] out there as this negative thing, but for me, it just is more years under my belt, more learning and knowing what I want, what I don’t want and what I won’t settle for,” she told Good Morning America in March.

As for her Bachelor history, Clare was the runner-up on Juan Pablo Galavis’ season of The Bachelor in 2014. After that, she competed on seasons 1 and 2 of Bachelor in Paradise. She also starred on 2018’s Bachelor Winter Games and got engaged to contestant Benoit Beauséjour-Savard on “After the Final Rose.” The two, however, ended their engagement two months after the episode. But it looks like Benoit will be on the upcoming season of The Bachelorette, maybe as a contestant but more likely as someone to give Clare closure.

Then came July when Reality Steve revealed in an Instagram Live that Tayshia Adams, the runner-up from Colton Underwood’s season of The Bachelor, will replace Clare after Clare fell for contestant Dale Moss and decided to quit. (There are also reports that Clare and Dale are engaged.) Along with her time on Colton’s season, Tayshia also competed on season 6 of Bachelor in Paradise, where she dated John Paul Jones from Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette. Who’s in The Bachelorette 2020 Cast?

The Bachelorette 2020 cast was first announced in March with 32 men. A new cast was announced in July with 42 men, which consisted of 15 men who were cut from the first batch and 25 new men. See the full list of Bachelorette 2020 contestants here. Us Weekly also reported in July that new men were cast for the show after Tayshia replaced Clare as the Bachelorette. Reality Steve reported in July that—at the time Clare left the show to be with Dale—there were 15 men left in the competition. Those 15 men will have the choice to stay to vie for Tayshia’s heart to go home.  More info here.

Matt J., Tyler Cameron’s handsome best friend and roommate and one of the contestants first announced for Clare’s season, was also a frontrunner for The Bachelorette season 16 until June 2020 when he was announced as the season 25 Bachelor after thousands of fans signed a petition calling for the franchise to cast its first Black male lead. Of course, this means that Matt was among the contestants cut from Clare’s first round of men.

“My first reaction was, ‘Does this mean I don’t get to meet Clare?,’ because I was looking forward to meeting her,” Matt said in a June 2020 interview on Good Morning America. “I had set aside all this time and we’d gone out to California and been called back for quarantine. I’m super excited for her and her season but I’m looking forward to meeting her eventually.”

Chris Harrison confirmed over quarantine that the season would be recast with a mix of old and new contestants. “The thought that 25, 30, 35 guys—everybody that was able to take time off [then would be able to] come back on The Bachelorette…we don’t have a set time of when we’re going to come back,” he said on an Instagram Live in March 2020. “So, the idea that everybody’s just going to be able to take off work and do this again? Probably very slim. There will be some different guys. Maybe it will be completely different guys. Maybe it will be a mixture. Who knows?”

When’s The Bachelorette 2020 Release Date?

No new release date has been announced, but Reality Steve predicts that season 16 will premiere in September and will air on Tuesdays.

Before quarantine, season 16 of The Bachelorette was set to premiere on May 19 and start filming in mid-March. However, that, of course, has been pushed back after the show announced a hiatus to its production. With the rapidly changing events related to COVID-19, and out of an abundance of caution, Warner Bros. Television Group is halting production on some of our 70+ series and pilots currently filming or about to begin,” ABC said in a statement in March. “There have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 on any of our productions, but the health and safety of our employees, casts and crews remains our top priority. During this time, we will continue to follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control as well as local officials and public health professionals in each city where our productions are based.” was supposed to start production on its next season on March 13.

How Will The Bachelorette 2020 Work?

Clare and Tayshia’s season of The Bachelorette started filming on July 8, 2020, at the La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, California—not the Bachelor Mansion.

As Variety reported in June, the season will be filmed in quarantine, with the cast and crew living on site. Each cast and crew member will be tested before they enter the resort, and there will be regular testing and temperature checks throughout the season. Likewise, no visitors or press will be allowed, so that the production remains quarantined. Tayshia was also quarantined at the resort for two weeks before she started filming as Clare’s replacement. Because the season is quarantined, this also means that there will be no trips to romantic destinations across the world, as seen in previous seasons of the Bachelor franchise.

“We obviously can’t shoot a dating show with people in close quarters where people aren’t cleared and we know everything is safe,” a source told Variety. “It will be a super safe paradise for everyone to shoot the show.”

As for the resort that will be used for season 16, Us Weekly reports that it’s only 164 miles from the Bachelor Mansion and is a popular hotel for Coachella attendees. The resort, which remains open for estate owners but not guests, will reopen to the public in September, which gives an estimate to when Clare’s season is set to finish filming.

The space is also way bigger than the Bachelor Mansion. The resort spans 1,400 acres and consists of 41 pools, 53 hot spas, 23 tennis courts, five golf courses, seven restaurants and 796 guest rooms. There are also villas and suites with personal pools and hot tubs, which we’re sure will be deserved for the Fantasy Suite portion of the season.

Because of the quarantine requirements, JoJo Fletcher will replace Chris Harrison as the host of The Bachelorette for two weeks. A source told Us Weekly in August 2020 that the former Bachelorette will serve as the host as Harrison quarantines for two weeks after he flew to Texas mid-season to drop off his son, Joshua, at college.

“The moment he got back, Chris was told he could not set foot back on the set until he went through another 14-day quarantine,” the insider said.. “The show’s contestants and crew all had to quarantine on the property for 14 days prior to the camera’s rolling. But it didn’t dawn on Chris he’d have to do it all over again if he simply left to take his kid to college.”
