The #1 Styling Tip We Learned from the Resort Collections

Due to the way the fashion calendar currently works, we view collections months before the clothes actually become available in stores. And as frustrating as it can be waiting for pieces to hit stories, what you can do immediately is take inspiration from the way those pieces are styled.

The presentations always offer ideas of how to best transition your wardrobe into the next season, and for Resort 21, the button-down has emerged as the key layering piece. Worn under just about everything, we spotted button-downs in both classic white and an array of colors and prints layered under sweaters, dresses, sweatshirts, and more.

The layering of a button-down typically connotes preppy style. Some designers like Brandon Maxwell are leaning into that stereotype, pairing button-downs with sweaters and tailored blazers. Others, like Balmain, are challenging the notion, contrasting the classic piece with sequins and edgier silhouettes.

Luckily, most people have a button-down hanging in their closet, and if not, there are millions of options to shop without having to wait for Resort collections to be available.
