This Insane Jewelry Collection Will Leave You Breathless

An anomaly of the working world is stumbling upon those who love something so much they find a way to make a career out of it, even if a pathway has yet to be laid out. Katherine James was so infatuated with jewelry—specifically, bold, big gemstones—that she created an e-commerce platform without initially intending to via Facebook and later with Instagram and her own website. “It started as me buying jewelry and then running out of money to buy more, so I had to sell the stuff that I wasn’t wearing in order to purchase more jewelry,” explains James. “It’s essentially one woman’s jewelry addiction that sort of birthed the business.”

James has a penchant for big, bold, look-at-me gemstones, specifically of the colored variety, from vintage emerald bracelets to massive sapphire engagement rings—you can thank Kate Middleton for that trend. Lucky for her, fine jewelry, which she ironically refers to as “gear,” keeps getting better with age. Yes, this literally means she can indulge and “test out” the product a bit. “If I was doing shoes, I couldn’t wear shoes and then [sell] them,” James laughs. “Whereas with jewelry, because it is timeless and you can’t really damage it, you can enjoy it for that period of time until it sells and just health-and-safety-check it for a little bit.” Anyone else currently rethinking their career choice?
