Welcome to Style Diaries, a new series where we research the physical manifestations of our closet tours IRL. We're asking friends and tastemakers to show us what they're *actually* wearing during the week and provide a little insight into their thoughts on the current state of fashion. This week we are speaking with stylist and costume designer Miyako Bellizzi. A fan of menswear, Bellizzi is not afraid of an oversized silhouette, nor is she wary of conflicting patterns and fabrications.
What does your style *actually* look like right now?
"My style hasn't changed much over the years and could be described mostly as tomboy or boyish. I only really wear menswear, as I've always had a hard time finding women's clothes that fit me right. I dress for function and comfort and love to layer. My favorite article of clothing is a hoodie, and I usually wear one every day."
Day 1:
"This week is a back-to-NYC, organize-the-studio week, so I planned on wearing clothes that I wouldn't mind getting down and dirty in. I just found this sweater upstate in this cute vintage store I came across. Decided to be casual and wear my mom's Levi's I took last time I was home. It's been pretty warm this week, so I felt like I didn't need a heavy jacket and wore my oversize vintage denim shirt. Wore my navy Vans to tie it all in. Over the summer, I got this denim bag I love from a friend, Liz Delaney, who was selling them at the sidewalk sale. My glasses are vintage from Procell, and earrings are handmade Polynesian flower earrings I got while living in Hawaii."

Do you have an outfit formula or preferred style?
"My go-to formula is a loose-fitting print/colorful pant with an A-tank. I then layer a button-down under a hoodie, then add a jacket. Boots or sneakers only, as I need to be on my feet all day and need to be comfortable walking around. Depending on the weather, I add or delete a layer."
Day 2:
"Day two! Washed my hair and put in my signature braids so they are out of the way while I'm cleaning in the studio. This look is a pretty uniformed Miyako look. I got my Our Legacy pants on with a tank and layered with my favorite vintage orange-striped menswear shirt. This vintage patchwork denim jacket is one of my faves and goes with everything, so thought it would be a good layer for today. My shoes are hiking boots I got while in Japan."

Predictions for what fashion will look like post-pandemic? Or at least how you will dress?
"Casual! I think we've all gotten accustomed to being more comfortable being home more than we are used to. I think it's changed how we feel about dressing up. I tend to keep my nicer pieces in the closet, as I haven't felt like I've had an occasion yet to bring them out. I do think there will be a surge when the weather is nicer in NYC and we'll all show all our nice pieces that have been hiding in our closets for over a year. Until then though, I think it'll stay casual and comfortable."
Day 3:
"Today is a cold, rainy day here in NYC, so I decided to go classic all-black chic to the stu. The turtleneck top with the buttons I got in a market in Paris. Had to sandwich a hoodie for comfort in between this vintage rain jacket I found thrifting. I'm wearing my favorite jeans from Lemaire and my vintage Prada Sport sneakers. I'm a heavy silver jewelry-wearing girl and never leave the house without something shiny on my wrists and ears. I'm wearing E.M. Kelly hoops, and my bracelets are from all over the world. I like to collect jewelry when I travel, so each one represents a place I've been."
