The Summer Staples Our Staffers Can’t Wait to Wear

Though the idea of a seasonless wardrobe is intriguing, there are certain items that are by default relegated to certain times of the year—unless you are lucky enough to live in an "endless summer" sort of climate. And while there are styling tricks to circumvent this logic, like layering crop tops over turtlenecks, there's nothing quite like the first moment in a leg-baring mini dress come spring. We've asked our staffers to reveal everything in their warm-weather shopping carts that they've been itching to wear all winter long. Results vary from fuzzy bra tops to romantic sundresses. If you, too, are exhibiting signs of cold weather fatigue, we recommend you continue scrolling.

Boardwalk Fuzzy Bra Top

In my truest girl-from-the-Sunshine-State form, I always gravitate toward bright, happy yellows and fuzzy tennis-ball-style materials. So when I saw this bralette that's as ideal for summer layering as it is for casual days spent lounging around the house, I had to have it. Side note: This particular piece is part of a collab the brand did with Hailee Steinfeld.

Crossbody Bag in Lime Green

Most of my outfits tend to be a varying range of solid neutral colors, but I'm 100 percent not afraid of vibrant pops of color when it comes to accessorizing or accent pieces. This lime-green crossbody bag checks a lot of boxes—simply put, it's just the right bold accent for any look.

Margaux in White

This timeless corseted one-piece with demi cups may be a swimsuit, but I'm planning to wear it as a top—likely with a denim skirt or linen shorts—for a wear-anywhere look all summer long.

Le Vintage Bermuda Frayed Denim Shorts

While the Bermuda shorts trend is nothing new, I've been enjoying a more tapered silhouette lately. This sleek pair of denim shorts (is that an oxymoron?) will work with anything from a simple t-shirt and sandals to a blouse and blazer. I recently indulged in this style and plan on wearing them all summer long.

Rose Print Organic Cotton Gauze Sarong

The "island girl" aesthetic doesn't really fit my vibe—I'm much more comfortable in my all-black New Yorker ensembles (see alternative selections). But warm weather calls for a little experimentation, so catch me in simple styles like this one as a beach cover-up, then later paired with a bodysuit for dinner. Side note: I may also end up using a scarf I already own to achieve the same result.

Espera Ribbed Organic Cotton Blend Tank Top

I've been looking for a simple tank top with a slight twist on the typical silhouette, and this one is really satisfying all my sartorial needs. I plan on wearing this style all summer long, but for now, you'll find it layered under light jackets to beat the breeze.

Milla Mini Dress in Capri Coastal Marble

I have been a huge fan of everything that Staud does, especially when it comes to warm-weather dressing, for a long time. In my eyes, the brand truly does not miss! The colors of this dress in particular are even more stunning and vibrant in person, and I can't imagine a more perfect piece to dress up or down for summer.

Fitted Ribbed Dress

I've had my eye on this dress from ethically produced Australian brand Manning Cartell for months. The neckline and classic navy hue feel extra chic (almost Meredith from The Parent Trap-ish) to me, and for a piece so put together, it also looks like it's actually comfortable.

Beachside Tie Maxi Dress

This dress comes in so many fun and summery colors—I feel like I'll inevitably end up owning more than one. I'm also a sucker for a low-back moment in the warm months (any excuse to break out the sticky bra), and love how the high-neck, business-in-the-front situation balances out this look.

Cowl Neck Slip Dress

I consider this Fleur du Mal slip dress to be a wardrobe essential. The timeless silhouette manages to take the effort out of getting dressed without, you know, looking like you didn't put any effort into getting dressed. It's also super comfortable—the slinky piece softly grazes against the skin, rather than awkwardly clinging to your body.

Twisty Bag

Colorwise, the majority of my wardrobe leans neutral, so I always opt for bright accessories, like this citrus bag, to liven up my look. The standout shade isn't the only perk—the handbag is large enough to fit all essentials (credit card, headphones, lip tint) without weighing you down.

Jane in Red Tortoise

It's rare for me to find a pair of sunglasses that hits all my sweet spots, but this pair of sunnies from Elisa Johnson's new line checks all the boxes. They're not too big, not too small; they make a statement, yet I can still pair them with (almost) anything in my closet, and the frames' design is vintage-inspired without looking dated.

Easy Shirt in Paper Cotton

You will see me wearing this shirt all summer long—the lightweight 'paper cotton' fabric is absolutely perfect for hot summer days, along with the breezy oversize fit. I opted for the washed black and will be buying every other color ASAP. There are also a variety of shirt styles they make in this fabric (available for men and women)!

Dellow Leather Sneaker

These are a summer staple in my wardrobe. Clean lines, chunky sole, and classically white—they are perfect to wear casually or even with an easy-fitting suit to add a bit of edge. I am also now eyeing the canvas version, as well...

Boat and Tote

If you grew up in New England, the Boat and Tote has been part of your life in one way or another. It is the perfect bag to fill full of beach-day essentials, or, if you are like me and cannot wait to travel again, this tote is ideal for a weekend getaway and can truly fit it all.
