3 Designers Weigh In on New Ways to Wear Your Sweats

It's no secret that the vast majority of people lived in loungewear this past year. Sweatshirts were commonplace, and donning anything without an elastic waistband was a rarity at best, nonexistent at worst. Our shopping searches shifted from "plaid blazer" to "matching tracksuit."

So now that we've accumulated all this loungewear, what are we supposed to do with it? We went back to the source, asking those who have dealt with this dilemma since before the pandemic: loungewear designers. Their suggestions range from boxers and blazers to pajama shirts and denim shorts. Continue scrolling to discover how to incorporate all your extra loungewear into your IRL wardrobe.

Knit Pants + Off-the-Shoulder Top

"As easy as it is to match our sets, I equally love mixing and matching them. Here I'm wearing our Leset Zoe knit pants tied back to our Eve off-the-shoulder top with the matching Zoe cardigan draped over my shoulders in case it gets chilly. I accessorized with a pair of Row heels to take the outfit from day to night."

"The Leset Rio stirrup pants have been my go-to for a while now. We just released them in white, and I've been wearing them nonstop. I paired them back to our new Zoe deep-V cable pullover in cobalt with Khaite sandals and DMY by DMY sunglasses. I equally love them with sneakers and loafers!"

"Our new Leset Eve Stripe Set has been my summer staple. Whether I wear the button-down over a bathing suit or as a full set out or to bed at night—it works for all occasions. Here I'm wearing it as a set with Khaite kitten-heel sandals."

Joggers + Jacket + Heeled Sandal

"If I want to dress up a classic pair of jogger sweatpants, I wear a chunky grandma-heeled sandal and a denim jacket as a shirt. To tie it all together, I add a strand of pearls!"

Blazer + Tank + Wide-Leg Sweatpant

loungewear

"A classic white tank and a fancy-ish blazer or jacket with a wide-leg sweatpant is a go-to combination—think tweed for the blazer or jacket! The mix of the fitted and loose pieces perfects the proportion of the look. I also add sneakers for balance!"

Boxer Shorts + Blazer

"I'm currently having a boxer short moment. The easiest way for them to not look like you rolled out of bed is to pair them with a blazer and pearls."

Pajama Shirt + Denim Shorts

loungewear

"Wearing an easy pajama-like cabana shirt with denim shorts and sandals is one of the easiest ways to incorporate loungewear in your everyday wardrobe. I love pieces that can be used for both lounging and everyday activities. A shirt of this style is both great with a pair of sweatpants or pj shorts at home but also out and about with denim or even trousers to a nice dinner. The neckline is also great for a necklace, so add on a strand of pearls as a finishing touch."

Cotton Shorts + Cardigan

loungewear

"These shorts—we make them in several colorways including stripes—are easy lounge shorts to style for a range of activities: wear them with a matching tee (we love a set) for everyday lounging or errands, or pair with a cardigan or button-down (maybe throw on a blazer or tweed jacket) plus loafers for a summer dinner."

Knit Pants + Button-Down

loungewear

"Knit pants like these, which are a cotton blend, are the coziest pants to sit around in the AC in, but are also incredibly fun to dress up. You can add a button-down shirt or a navy or cream blazer and cami, and heeled mules for dinner. I like a pair that puddles at the hem (this pair does for most under 5'10"), so they're especially great to dress up with heels."
