While most spend the days leading up to Thanksgiving focused on what goes on the table, we prefer to spend our free hours thinking about what goes on our bodies—namely, the outfits we’ll be wearing to dinner. There are many factors to consider here: comfort, style, a festive inclination, and of course, the copious amounts of food we plan on consuming. This tends to entail oversized silhouettes and forgiving waistbands, all of which our staffers have masked with chic yet holiday-appropriate ensembles, which you can read more about below.

Pockets. That’s all I really want to focus on here—the joyous feeling of having a place to rest my hands while I saunter about on Thanksgiving day, sipping organic cabernet and generally trying to avoid any heavy conversations or talk about politics. I’ll be in Florida with my extended family, so this look is the perfect balance of comfort and style, and dare I say roomy enough to hide my food baby, too.

My family and I have always kept things pretty lowkey on Thanksgiving—just parents and siblings sitting down for dinner. That said, a few of us have a penchant for clothes (and, fittingly, tablescapes) so everyone strikes a balance between comfort and finery. I love to find prints and patterns evocative of the holiday season without feeling too gimmicky. I decided on a plaid Dries Van Noten turtleneck I purchased on The RealReal. The jeans are three-sizes-too-big A.P.C. jeans in a dark wash that I’ve enjoyed cuffing and wearing with a feminine shoe like these By Far mary janes. And socks are, of course, included—it’s winter, even in the south. I’ll throw on this Maje coat (also sized up) that I swear looks vintage even though it’s current season for the mandatory Christmas card picture preceding the feast.

Chickee’s Vintage in Brooklyn is one of my favorite special occasion vintage stores. It’s highly curated and you definitely pay for the quality of pieces selected—but these Armani trousers from the '90s are worth every penny. I paired them with a vintage Wray silk blouse that perfectly clashes with the subtle plaid of the pants. My hero shoes for the winter are these Doc Marten Adrian loafers in cherry—a perfect shoe that everyone below 14th street owns, but the cherry leather adds a slight twist of personality.

This year, I’m aiming for a look that’s as eclectic and voluminous as my Thanksgiving plate. For the first family gathering in three years, I plan to hold nothing back, and an oversized button-down will likely welcome an overabundance of my mom’s bourbon sweet potatoes. It’s also my birthday week, so cue the Swarovski crystal embellished corset and chain earrings. I’d go so far as to say that if my outfit doesn’t confuse at least one cousin, I’m doing something wrong.
