This Sunday, Rihanna returned to one of the biggest stages in music. The nine-time Grammy winner is headlining the Super Bowl LVII halftime show in her first performance since the 2018 Grammy Awards.
Her performance is greatly anticipated, as it comes seven years after the release of her most recent album, "Anti," and with all the anticipation comes a slew of questions. What songs will she perform? Will there be a surprise guest? What will she wear? Who did her nails? Now that the show has come and gone, the only question that you probably don't have the answer is the last one. Thankfully, we were able to get all of the details behind Rihanna's Super Bowl nail look. CND worked with Kimmie Kyees, an LA-based celebrity nail artist, to create the nails that Rihanna rocked during her big return. Keep reading for all the details behind the nail art.
For her iconic Super Bowl performance, Rihanna was all decked out in red, wearing a Loewe jumpsuit and bustier and an Alaia jacket. As for her nails, the artist went also a bold red shade with a mirror-like shine. “We wanted the nails to pop so we went with CND’s Devil Red, which is the perfect true red that really complements her tone,” says Kyees. “The longer length square shaped tips also beautifully lengthened her hands while still staying true to the classic look.”
To complete the look, Kyees used CND Cuticle Away to clean up the cuticles before applying one coat of CND Plexigel Bonder and curing using an LED lamp. Then she applied two coats of CND Shellac in Devil Red before sealing the polish with CND No Wipe Top Coat.

As for her makeup look, Rihanna went with a classic red lip. “That red stage called for the ultimate Rihanna red lip. We wanted her beauty look to celebrate this moment and be a true reflection of her timeless beauty,” says Priscilla Ono, Fenty Beauty global makeup artist. “And to me, there’s nothing more iconic to Rihanna than her soft matte skin and a bold red lip.” First, Ono applied thin layers of the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Powder Foundation and Invisimatte Instant Setting + Blotting Powder for a base that could withstand the bright lights of the Super Bowl stage. Then, she swiped on a layer of Fenty Beauty’s Fenty Icon Velvet Liquid Lipstick in The MVP, a long-lasting liquid lipstick in a stunning red shade.
