These NYFW Beauty Trends Deserve a Spot on Your Moodboard

The New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2023 season has finally come to a close, and while it’ll be months before we can wear the clothes that came down the runway, we don’t have to wait a second to start testing out the beauty trends. The latest runway shows gave us a number of stunning beauty trends with multiple options for everyone, regardless of taste level. Ahead, we’ve compiled our five favorite makeup, hair, and nail trends from NYFW F/W 23 that we can’t wait to try out.

Striking Eyeshadow

While the fall and winter shows usually bring a moodier aesthetic, a few designers opted to go against the grain, sending models down the runway with bold and bright hues adorning their eyes. At Sergio Hudson, celebrity makeup artist and Stila Cosmetics global head of artistry Charlie Riddle opted for purple shadow and green liner to complement the bold and multicolored pattern in the collection.

At Anna Sui, makeup artist Pat McGrath’s look for the show also referenced the collection. Anna Sui’s collection was inspired by The Peppermint Lounge and the vibrant hues of pink and green. “The makeup reflects the era’s bold and vivid fashion sense, with an explosion of colour and tantalising textures,” says a press release from Pat McGrath Labs.

Goth Aesthetic

“My inspiration for this look is something super pretty and playful but also super mean,” says international makeup artist Marcelo Gutierrez about the makeup look for Sandy Liang’s FW 23 show. “This look embodies the grundy, sad, pretty girl energy. She is a maneater but very feminine, not aggressive.”

Gutierrez used Ilia Beauty products to create a dramatic and vamp-inspired lip. Kim Shui’s models also donned a similar look on their lips. Makeup artist Romero Jennings used MAC products to create an ombre-toned lip with an ox-blood red outer parameter.

French Tips

Rather than opting for classic white tips, Proenza Schouler and PatBo both offered a modern twist on the French manicure by sending vibrant and mesmerizing nail art down their FW 23 runways.

Smokey Liner

Forget a smokey eye and try a smokey liner instead. Lived-in liner graced the runways at Prabal Gurung and Altuzarra for a more effortless and less complicated makeup look.

Sleek Buns

Elevated versions of the slicked-back buns found their way on the runways this season. At Christian Siriano, lead hairstylist Lacy Redway created twisted buns for models, and at Jason Wu models rocked extreme center parts with clean, hairnet-covered buns, thanks to hairstylist Jimmy Paul.
