“The archetype of a career woman inspired the hair,” explains Evanie Frausto, the lead hairstylist for the Sandy Liang Fall/Winter 2024 show. “She gets her hair blown out every day before work, and she’s on the go. The hair really helps to bring that full character together.” As one would imagine, the Sandy Liang visual interpretation of adulthood isn’t strict or somber. It’s playful and infused with the brand’s nostalgic sensibility. An assortment of hair accessories, including bold, dramatic rosettes and patterned bandanas, nodded to Sailor Moon and a corresponding early aughts aesthetic.
Frausto and his team adhered the accessories to loose waves and low buns alike to emphasize the effortless and minimalist feel of the collection. Most models received blowouts, shared Frausto, which was a bit stressful for his team. “The style itself is minimalist, but we had the drama of dealing with the electrical power,” says Frausto. To ensure his team didn’t trigger a power outage, Frausto scattered hairstylists all over the show’s small venue in Chelsea. “We had hairstylists in the bathroom, out by the entrance, everywhere, just to make sure we had the power we needed.”
The hero product for the look? Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray. “It gives a voluminous blowout without any crunch,” explains Frausto. “It’s super soft, feels clean, and it helps hold texture on the ends.”
